A. William Moss - City Manager

Naples City Manager - Bill MossA. William "Bill" Moss assumed the position as the City Manager of Naples on January 2, 2008. His selection was based upon his previous education, experience, and qualifications necessary to meet the unique challenge of managing municipal government for a community with a long and proud history of quality services, an active and involved citizenry, and an effective system of governance. He was appointed by the Mayor and City Council and is responsible for managing the day to day affairs of city government.

Prior to joining the Naples community, Bill served as the City Manager for Marco Island, Florida for ten years. He was their first City Manager and was hired in 1998 to establish and manage the newly incorporated municipality.

Bill has over 34 years of city management experience. His interest in city management developed while he was a student at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Appointed by the student body president to serve with the Carbondale City Council, Bill was exposed to the council-manager form of government and the role of a city manager. He adjusted his curriculum to allow for more exposure to local government. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a major in Economics.

Bill Moss then enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended the Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. He was assigned to an infantry unit in West Germany as his first tour and then to Viet Nam, where he earned the Bronze Star medal. He left the Army after 3½ years and went to Australia to visit a young lady he had met earlier. That young lady was Faye, and she has been his spouse and friend for 35 years.

Bill and Faye returned to the United States in order for him to pursue a career in local government management. He earned a Master of Public Affairs degree at Southern Illinois University while working with the City of Carbondale, Illinois where he became the Assistant City Manager. He was then hired as the City Manager of Atlantic Beach, Florida, and later assumed a position as City Manager for North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Bill and Faye have two children. Jason, their son, is an attorney in Columbia, SC, and Karen Spina, their daughter, is a Speech Pathologist. She is married to Capt. Brien Spina, and they own a restaurant on Marco Island.

Bill and Faye live in Naples. They enjoy meeting Naples residents, community events, and exercise activities, including tennis.
